* March 2nd    “Remembering Woody Williams: Local Freethought Pioneer (Oct. 29, 1939 - Jan. 21, 2008)”


Woody‘s widow, Diane; Elizabeth Gerber; Fred Whitehead; Wiley Morrison; Don Bell; and others share a history of the work Woody did in the Kansas City area to promote and encourage the practice of free thought.


March 9th    “Convincing Robert Patterson (and others?) of CO2 Contributions to Global Warming”

Kenneth S. Schmitz, professor of physical chemistry, UMKC.


Eddington was told he was the number one of three people in the world who understood the theory of general relativity. After some period of thought, he was asked what he was thinking. He responded, “I wonder who the 3rd person is?” Dr. Schmitz will explain the role of CO2 in global warming (climate change) to Bob and two other holdouts.

March 16th    “A Look at Anti-Judaism in Christian History”

Bill Tammeus, author and former Religion columnist for the Kansas City Star.


Tammeus discusses his upcoming book about the long and lamentable history of anti-Judaism in Christianity and how it helped create modern anti-Semitism. He will explain the difference between anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism, and explore modern anti-Semitism.


March 23th    “Why I Went to the 2007 AAI Conference in Washington, DC.; What I saw and who I met there.”

Doug grew up in a secular household and has always doubted religious authorities of all kinds. After reading about the all-star line up for the 2007 convention, Doug decided to visit the 2007 "Crystal Clear Atheism" AAI Convention in Washington, D.C. Doug will explain what Atheism means to him share his experience in attending the one of the largest Atheist Conventions in the US.


March 30th    “Linda Hall Library Community Book Programs”

Scott Curtis, Head of Reference Services and Jenny Bruenger, Reference Librarian.


Geared to the scientifically or technologically curious public, the library‘s discussion groups focus on important scientific topics and provide a format for sharing of interests and concerns relating to science.
