Oct 7th "Are Good Works Possible Without Religion?"
Lynne Schultz, chair and co-founder of EARTHWARD
Lynne Schultz will discuss her atheist-run charity, EARTHWARD,
and its efforts to help an African family fleeing religiously
motivated violence. The family fled Uganda to relocate in Kenya
to protect the five children from the Lord‘s Resistance Army,
an Old Testament-based terrorist group known for kidnapping
and forced conscription.

Lewis Diuguid, author and vice-president of community resources at the
Kansas City Star
Many of today’s world problems extract from abusive, insensitive reactions
of one group of people against another. Lewis’ latest new book,
Discovering the Real America, traces the roots and attempts to
set a new course to correct pathways.

"Quantum Biology - The New (Age) Synthesis"
Michael Ferrari, Asst. Professor, School of Biological Sciences, UMKC.
Biology and Medicine have rested on Newtonian mechanical models for
several centuries. In the last 100 years, a major paradigm shift
has occurred in physics, altering our view of the universe.
The life sciences have been slow to embrace this “new” physics.

"A Report on the Springfield, MO Symposium: the Role of Religion in Public Schools"
Kenneth S. Schmitz, professor of chemistry at UMKC
Dr. Schmitz will report on Missouri State University’s third annual
conference of the Academia for Educational Studies. Schmitz will summarize
remarks made by T. Jeremy Gunn, ACLU director of the program on freedom
of religion and belief in Washington, D.C.; Dan Mach, ACLU senior
litigator of religious issues in D.C.; Nell Nodding of Stanford University
and author of Educating for Intelligent Belief or Unbelief and The
Challenge to Care in Schools; and others.
