We are a community of people, based in Kansas City, MO, with a secular outlook on life. This means we generally prefer using reason, not faith, to solve human problems. We believe in a moral code based upon the philosophy of Secular Humanism. Not all of our members are Secular Humanists, but most of us are and our programs reflect that. The result of this is that our programs cover a very broad range of subject matter.

Our activities are open to the public. We welcome all to our programs, even as speakers. At the same time, the membership generally self-identifies as freethinkers, people whose thinking about religion is free from the constraints of authority, scripture or tradition. Freethinkers also include Humanists, Rationalists, Secularists, Deists, Atheists, Agnostics and Brights.

Our goal is to educate the public about the wide-ranging concerns of the freethinkers who make up the Community of Reason, while keeping a line of communication open to various communities of faith. This means that yes, some of us are atheists, and yes we still welcome Christians and other religionists who would like to participate in our programs.

Our activities include:

  • Sunday Programs at UMKC, Haag Hall, Room 301
  • Skeptical Religious Studies at UMKC, Haag Hall, Room 307
  • Occasional potlucks, field trips or parties.

We are incorporated under the State of Missouri's not for profit corporation laws and are a 501(c)(3) corporation under the Federal Income Tax Code.
